Treasure the Word of God

Image
2023 Challenge In 2022 our focus was on prayer. In 2023 I want to challenge us to focus on the Bible.  Our theme is "Treasure the Word of God."    Personally  - Invest in your personal relationship with God by reading your Bible daily.   Community  - Make Bibles available to every home that does not have a copy or to each child in third grade.   Nationally  - Partner with a church planter to make Bibles available to those they are seeking to reach.   Internationally  - Partner with a church, church planter or missionary to make Bibles available to the people group you and/or they are seeking to reach. Hymn Story: Saved, Saved (I've Found A Friend Who Is All To Me...)

Image
(Sam Stack)   Both the text and music for this hymn were written by Jack P. Scholfield.   He was born in 1882, in Kansas.   In his early days, he was an educator.   After teaching for a time, he became a traveling Evangelistic singer.   In 1912, he joined the staff of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (now NAMB). After leaving the Mission Board, he moved to Kansas, where he went into Real Estate.   After retiring in 1950, he moved to Missouri, where he lived until his death in 1972.   During his years as a Music Evangelist, he wrote many gospel songs, including this one.   These songs were purchased and published by Robert H. Coleman, Publisher of   many gospel song collections. According to the author, this hymn was written in 1911.   Scholfield stated that the melody came to him first.   He then wrote the text to fit the melody.   Robert Coleman published the hymn in several of his collections. It is still found in most current hymnals including the ‘Red

MinistrySafe Opportunity for POBA Churches

It is imperative that POBA churches take intentional steps to protect the children that are engaged in the ministries provided through your local church.   MinistrySafe is an excellent resource that is designed to help you provide the best possible protection.   This protection begins with background checks as a first step.   Equipping those who minister to children is also essential. MinistrySafe can help with background checks, comprehensive online training and establishing processes, policies and procedures.   To this end, I contacted MinistrySafe to see how your POBA can assist churches in pursuing excellence in protecting children under our care. HERE is their response: We (MinistrySafe) are willing to come alongside POBA to help equip your 63 churches. If your church is already a MinistrySafe member, ‘well done’ (you can take advantage of the discounted background check pricing). Through the MinistrySafe system, your churches have access to online Sexual Abuse Awareness Tra
