POBA Leadership Nominations

Image
(Greg Benfield) Every year I seek to visit every POBA church. In doing so, I get to meet many people serving well in the churches of this association. Even with this opportunity it is impossible for me or the POBA Administrative Team to know every person.  The association seeks to equip, enable, and expand in evangelism, disciple-making,  and missions ... and this requires leadership from across this association. Would you like to nominate someone for a leadership role with POBA? Please complete this online form to nominate a person for a leadership role:  https://bit.ly/POBALeadNom . The team will consider nominees made from cooperating POBA churches.

Missions Engagement

Image
(Greg Benfield)  Those who know me know that I am passionate about missions and my desire is to lead this association to equip, engage, and expand disciple-makers that worship God from here to the nations in keeping with the biblical mandate of Matthew 28:18-20. Below is the introduction and Article's I and II from the constitution of the  Southern Baptist Convention: The messengers from missionary societies, churches, and other religious bodies of the Baptist denomination in various parts of the United States met in Augusta, Georgia, May 8, 1845, for the purpose of carrying into effect the benevolent intention of our constituents by organizing a plan for eliciting, combining, and directing the energies of the denomination for the propagation of the gospel and adopted rules and fundamental principles which, as amended from time to time, are as follows: Article I. The Name:  The name of this body is the “Southern Baptist Convention.” Article II. Purpose:  It is the purpose

Hymn Story: Alas and Did My Savior Bleed

Hymn - Alas and Did my Savior Bleed   (Sam Stack)  We never know how deeply our actions affect the lives of others.   Isaac Watts' great hymn – Alas and did my Savior Bleed, has certainly touched the lives of many throughout the centuries.   Isaac Watts first wrote the hymn in 1707.   The original last line of the first verse was “for such a worm as I.”   Many newer hymnals have changed the line to “For sinners such as I.” The original Verses 2 and 4 have also been omitted from most hymnals.   I have included them in the text.   In this hymn, Watts draws the stark contrast between the sacrificial death of the mighty Maker and the unworthiness of sinful man.   The final words of the text ‘Here Lord, I give myself away—tis all that I can do.   This hymn appears in two forms in most hymnals.   The older version usually is included with verses 1, 3, 5 and 6 using the tune AVON by Hugh Wilson. It also appears in a newer version usually found with the title “At the Cross.” This version
