POBA Regular Meeting

  The Regular Meeting of the Piedmont Okefenokee Baptist Association will be held at Pineview Baptist Church on Thursday, April 20, 2023.  There will be finger foods at 6:30 PM, followed by the meeting at 7:00 PM.  Please let us know you will be there. Created for Worship Hymn Sing

Update 4/25/2023: Join us on Monday, May 1 at FBC Blackshear for the Created for Worship Hymn Sing !  Registration for the meal has closed, but you are still more than welcome to join in for the Hymn Sing. The Hymn Sing will begin at 10:30 AM. *****  Created for Worship Hymn Sing will be held at First Baptist Church in  Blackshear on Monday, May 1, 2023 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The event will be immediately followed by lunch in the fellowship hall. This ministry seeks to equip and engage senior adults. Please encourage your senior adults to  participate in this event (formerly known as The Gathering). We are blessed to have Rhon Carter, Worship and Music Catalyst with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, as our special guest this year.   Rhon will highlight six components of worship as we sing through some of our favorite hymns.   The VBS Roundtable will be held on Thursday, April 13 at Astoria Baptist Church in Waycross. VBS teachers, directors and pastors please make plans to join in the discussion on April 13. Hymn Story: His Way with Thee

  Hymn Stories:  His Way with Thee   I grew up singing this month’s hymn:   “His Way with Thee.”   It has not been included in a Baptist hymnal since the 1956 Baptist hymnal. This hymn was written in 1899 by Cyrus Nusbaum, a Methodist Pastor. At the time he was a circuit pastor with seven small congregations under his ministry. The ministry was very difficult for he and his wife.   He wrote: “It has been a most difficult task, strenuous and discouraging, and the income pitifully small.” After the first year, Nusbaum and his wife attended the annual denominational conference with the hope of a new assignment. When the yearly assignments came out, he was assigned to the same place. Disappointed and discouraged, he stayed up late.   He later wrote: “I was very unhappy, and a spirit of rebellion seemed to possess me. About midnight, I finally knelt in prayer beside my chair.
