Hymn Story: My Savior, My God

 (Sam Stack)  Hebrews 2:17-18 – It was necessary for Jesus to be made in every respect lie us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God.  Then He could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.  Since He himself has gone through suffering and testing, He is able to help us when we are being tested. My Savior, My God, as we sing it, has a rich heritage when we take a deeper look at this contemporary hymn.  The words were written as a poem entitled “I Am Not Skilled to Understand” in a book called “Songs of Salvation by Dora Greenwell. Miss Greenwell was born in 1821, into a well-to-do English family, her father died when she was young and the family lost their fortune.  Ms. Greenwell worked with the disabled children in London.  She began writing at the age of 39 and wrote this song at the age of 52.  Miss Greenwell relied on her faith in God to help her through her difficul...

POBA Regular Meeting Highlights

The Regular Meeting of the POBA was held on April 20, 2023 at Pineview Baptist Church in Waycross, GA. There were 16 churches represented: Camp Pinckney, Central, Emmanuel, FBC Blackshear, Haywood, King Memorial, Laura Chapel, Manor Community, Mershon, Millwood, Pineview, Pleasant Hill, Pleasant Valley, Southside Nahunta, Ten Mile, and Walkerville.  Some highlights:  * Bree Howard of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a student at South Georgia State College in Waycross spoke regarding the newly formed BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministries) chapter.  *A Policy Review Committee will be formed to make recommendations (propose policies that align with new bylaws) at the August Executive Committee Meeting  *A Compensation Committee will be formed to make recommendations (propose compensation packages) at the August Executive Committee Meeting *POBA will meet with migrant workers every other Wednesday through July for a meal and devotion. Collection for the Georgia Baptist Children's Home

  Update: THANK YOU to each individual, group, and church who brought donations for the Georgia Baptist Children's Home. Your generosity is appreciated! To date, the following churches and organizations have contributed (as well as individuals): Calvary, FBC Blackshear, Laura Chapel, Millwood, Pineview, Pleasant Hill, Scouting for Jesus, South Gate, Sweat Memorial, and Ten Mile. ***** POBA will be collecting items for the Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Baxley throughout the month of May. Items should be brought to the POBA Office by Thursday, May 25. Suggested items are: *baked beans *diced tomatoes *canned potatoes *sweet peas *elbow noodles *dish detergent Please contact the POBA Office at (912) 285-8161 with any questions.

Scholarship for Seminary Students

For Seminary Students: Crawford Street Baptist Church  (formerly located in Waycross, Georgia) established a fund to provide scholarships to Southern Baptist Theological Seminary students.  Crawford Street has given the Piedmont Okefenokee Baptist Association, Inc leadership the privilege of nominating candidates to receive a scholarship to students out of the Piedmont Okefenokee Baptist Association, Inc who will be attending one of the six  Southern Baptist Theological Seminaries in the fall of 2023.  This scholarship is for young people who desire to matriculate as students in any Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and who are preparing for the ministry as a pastor, minister of music, youth or education.  1.
